Hi

Anyone know of a cheap (free) software package that can reliably calculate volt drops, fault current etc in medium voltage systems?

Bussman fuse used to offer a package like that, I don't know if they still do or not. It was very similar to SKM PowerTools but included a library for only Bussman devices. You could add your own devices to the library, though. I'd check with them and the other overcurrent device vendors.

Thanks for the advice, I will follow it up

I have used the old Bussman programs. It calculates fault current, but not voltage drop. It is a good program if still available. It will handle more than one source and about 50 busses at medium and low vlotage.

Cutler Hammer had a graphics program that calculated fault current and voltage drop. It was not free however and I did not find it useful. Provided too many graphics errors and omissions. Cuttler Hammer is promoting a new program but do not know anything about it.

I suggest you look at MikeHolt.com for fault calculation and voltage drop spred sheet programs. These are probably in archives.

Thanks, Im downloading it now - will let you know
