The IGBT practically blown off the board, some traces destroyed.

Questions:
Does the SK-R1-MCB1-PF755 board control the firing of the power electronics?
Would it be UN-advisable to test the mother board in an identical frame?

I'm unsure of the architecture of this drive

The HIM is still functional from the original drive.

On small drives like that, the IGBTs are embedded into a common structure, along with the bridge diodes and the gate driving and protection IC for the IGBTs, called an “IPM”, for Intelligent Power Module. So because the IC is embedded, the connection to the Main Control Board is done directly at a TTL level.

As to the risks of “smoke testing” the MCB on a new drive, why? You don’t know why the old unit failed yet, do you? If it was a problem in the MCB, however unlikely, that could be an expensive test!

At 15hp drives rarely use IPMs. More likely the drive uses a PIM - a module containing all power semiconductors including the input rectifier. But often in this power class the driving circuit is not done by isolated drivers but by level shifters (similar like in a IPM, but outside the module). In this case also major damage to the control is likely.

Unless a replacement drive is not available a repair at this power level is questionable from economic point of view.
