I am looking for a little advice on how to run a PQR plate for SAW to follow the D1.1 code. What would anyone suggest to run to meet the following criteria.
We weld the A-36, A-572 grade 50 and grade 65 material
Our thickness rage from 3/16" to 5/8"
We use a copper, water cooled, backing bar.
We need 80% penetration on the welds
We use a butt joint on material up to 3/8", material 3/8" and thicker we run a v bevel with a 3/16" land
I believe I am going to have to run at least two PQR plates because of the grade 65 material being a group III material. I am not sure on how to address the 80% penetration on a PQR test.
I would like to hear what others have to offer on this issue
Thanks
