Dear Sirs,

I have start a pipeline project which is subject to ASME B31.1, so the PQRs should be done according to ASME Section IX.

Also, in the project is mentioned that it should comply with PED 2014/68/EU.

I discussed with an ASME Inspector and he told me that PED directive is requiring that I should do the impact test (in the project is nothing specified about impact test).

I am trying to make the PQRs and I have a few questions, if you are kindly to help me:
1. I have ISOS with A106 Gr. B (P no. 1, Group no. 1) and A106 Gr. C (P No. 1, Group no. 2)
From what I read in ASME Section IX it says that if you weld P no.1, Gr. no.1 with P no.1, Gr. no.2 your PQR will cover welding both materials and to each other.

2. I am confused also with the thickness range, for example for a pipe with thickness 168.3x14.27, the thickness range would be from 14.27 to 28.54?

I have attached a table with the welds of the projects and the PQRs that I intend to do. If someone can take a look and tell me if it's ok, I will be very grateful.

Thank you very much!

George,
Did you actually apply for your current role or are you an engineer who has been tasked with looking after welding ?
This is a serious question as I was about to start an in depth criticism of our industry but thought I would confirm your status first,
Regards,
Shane

Hello, you can make PQR and WPS valid for both ASME and PED but you need additional requirements. Just a regular ASME PQR is not valid for PED. Also be careful about the materials you are using. If they are not listed in an European Harmonized standard you will need a Particular Material Appraisal. As for my experience if you are dealing with PED contact with a Notified body (Lloyd's, Bureau, DNV,...) to be sure you have everything legal.

Best regards
