Hellow everyone,
I am looking for the practically achievable maximum hardness(BHN) for ASTM A995 Gr. 6A castings with REN > 40 and meeting mechanical properties.
Understand that if increase in hardness is achieved through heat treatment, then mechanical properties will be affected. So can anybody share practical experience or therotical knowledge about what max hardness value can be achieved with mechanical properties witin the limit as per ASTM

You could get higher hardness by deliberately forming intermetallics in the structure.
Your corrosion resistance will drop, maybe to the equivalent of at PREN of 15-20, and your ductility will drop.
Tensile elongation will be in the low single digits and impact toughness will be 20% or the original.
But you can get it hard.

If you want the full corrosion resistance, or anything close to it then you must use these in the solution annealed and rapid quenched condition. This is the condition specified in A995. The hardness in practice will come out RC 20-24.
