Does anyone here deal with the PRC/GBC?

Have shipped hundreds of pressure vessels and units there over the last 10 years. Seems they now wish to witness pressure tests of "completed units" before they ship.

Any info./advice or experience?

deanc;
You might want to check with the folks at the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors because they peform joint reviews in China and other places, and they have valuable contacts within ASME, as well. They might be able to provide you with information.

People Republic of China

Generally speaking, the China Pressure vessel code include GB150 Pressure Vessels and JB4732(FEA analysis)Desing by analysis.

I have the China Pressure Vessel Code GB150 and JB4732(FEA analysis) if you need these reference.

Completed 18 Vessels in July 03

PRC/GBC has their own Pressure Vessel Software <<SW6>>

National Technology Center of Process Equipment:

Software Package for Strength Calculations of
Process Equipments « SW6-1998 English Version »
(Based on Standards GB150-1998 etc. as calculation models,

Since the corresponding National Standards and Professional Standards for the design of pressure vessels and chemical process equipments, such as GB150, GB151, GB12337, JB4710 and JB4731 etc., are fully revised and issued, the National Technology Center of Process Equipment (TCED) developed and issued this design calculation software, named «Software Package for Strength Calculation of Process Equipments» (abbreviated “SW6-1998”, hereinafter), in September, 1998 based on these standards. This software package has won and is still gaining lots of users due to its simple and convenient operation, good service and the professional trust of the chief editor TCED.

In addition to the original participating units who developed «Software Package for Design Calculations of Steel Pressure Vessels by IBM-PC» (i.e. “SW6-93”), such as TCED, Process Equipment Research Institute of ECUST, China Huan-Qiu Chemical Engineering Corp., China Tian-Chen Chemical Engineering Corp., China Wu-Huan Chemical Engineering Corp., Shanghai Pharmaceutical Industry Design Institute of SINOPEC and Tian-Jin Chemical Design Institute etc., some domestic well-known units who have been engaging in the design of pressure vessel and software development work for lone times, such as China Hua-Lu Engineering Corp. and He-Fei General Mechanical Research Institute etc., also participated in the development of « SW6-1998 » this time. Therefore, the new Software Package could closely follow the development of computer technique, and with the style of Windows, the user may get more intuition, convenience and agility in operation.

For the users having purchased the Software Package «SW6» (1993 edition etc.), the price of « SW6-1998 » could be preferentially discounted at a considerable extent correspondingly; and the «SW6-1998» is promised yet to provide once free charge service during new edition execution of corresponding Standards JB4710 and JB4731, if necessary.

1. Essential Functions and Characteristics of « SW6-1998 »

(a) The calculation contents of this software package contain all the basic calculations of SW6-93, and in addition, some calculation functions, listed in HG20582-1998 « Regulations on Strength Calculations of Steel Chemical Vessels », which is not formulated in SW6-93 are also included.

SW6-1998 covers 10 equipment calculation programs (i.e. horizontal vessels, tower, fixed tubesheet heat exchanger, floating head heat exchanger, U-tube heat exchanger, packed floating tubesheet/head heat exchanger, vertical jacketed vessels, spherical tanks, high pressure vessels and vessels with noncircular cross section), in combination with the component/part calculation program and the user’s material database management program.

(b) The component/part calculation program could calculate not only the most commonly used pressurized components, such as cylinders, various heads subject to internal or external pressure, opening reinforcement, flange etc., but also some special pressurized parts specified in HG20582-1998 « Regulations on Strength Calculations of Steel Chemical Vessels ». All of 10 equipment calculation programs could almost calculate the pressurized parts of various construction combinations of corresponding equipment separately or integrally.

(c) Owing to the Windows used as the operation platform of SW6-1998, most of the operating style is the same as that in some famous Windows software. Hence, the user is permitted to input initial data for the identical equipment by several times. The initial data input order for different components/parts of the identical equipment are not restricted. Moreover, during data input some hints may be given out by means of clicking button “Sketch” or “Help”, and so forth. All of above improvements will benefit the user greatly. The calculation order of sequence for various components/parts in any one equipment may be decided by the user self or automatically by the program with thorough agility.

(d) After completion of calculations, several forms of calculation results such as a concise result displayed on screen and a printed « Design Calculation Data Sheet » with WORD table format (Chinese or English as required) could be shown to meet the user’s different requirements of consulting brief conclusion or getting formal file archive.

Thanks Isthill

I will look into the software. I also have GB150,what format is your JB4732 in? I would like a copy if possiable. Is it in english?

Problem is that the Manuf.I work with has the SQL and ISO9000/ASME VIII. With the new rules from AQSIQ the Chinese wish to provide a Chinese inspector to witness final unit pressure tests. This is a big problem and am tryng to get them to go with an independent third party(AIA).

The Chinese review teams have always been super(but expensive). But as you know it is hard to get answers for questions.

Anyone?
