We are supporting a project demanding strict quality. The client is proposing to use Non-shrink grout under base-plates and other structural components. We can not find an ASTM Standard that specifically addresses "Field" testing of the grout.

We have referenced the following ASTMs:
C 109
C 942 (manufacturer's recommendation)
C 1107

These touch and go on the subject of field sampling/testing, but very vague. We are in the process of writing a project/task-task specific procedure to encapsulate all requirements, and would appreciate helpful input.

Any suggestions/recommendations?

There is no site sampling for a product like non-shrink grout. The standards for acceptance are laboratory tests. Many masonry mortar/grout standards have requirement on proportions and mixing, but field sampling is not really productive. the only thing to do is make sure the materials are used according to proportioning or pre-proportioned materials are mixed and used as required.

Even the common masonry mortar does not have field tests, but the proportions are determined by lab tests to meet the various types of mortar.

It is a site control requirement to be enforced by the specifier of the product/material.

For grouted PT projects, we site sample 2" cubes (steel moulds) and lab test them for 7-day and 28-day compressive strength.
