Dear All

In one of our building, contractor proposed to use Precast columns to speed up the programme. These columns are gravity columns and the building is in non-seismic zone.

Your input will be appreciated.

I have done this previously. The developer wanted precast columns and beams but that was not an option.

Single story columns work well if you have a good contractor - we didnt and therefore had many problems with alignment of splice bars e.t.c.

one column up to the underside of the slab.beam and then the next one bears on to the top of the slab above with the splice bars running between. Be careful of cover and reinforcement congestion if you are going to use mechanical splices.

One good proprietary product is by lenton, but be careful - these are big.
