I'm quite new to the field of laser engravers/cnc machines(as in absolutely no training, education, or knowledge whatsoever), but I was planning on working on a product at home with variable tolerances depending on what equipment is financially viable. I was wondering about the connection between price and accuracy; i.e. what would a $100 laser engraver's precision be? what about $1000? $10,000? Also, more specifically, what would be the cost of one with 1 micron accuracy and 0.5 micron accuracy be?

Not much point on micron-level accuracy if the repeatability is complete crap from line to line (assuming engraving, not cutting). Micron-level accuracy is also worthless if the dot size is 100 times larger than the movement step.

For a $100 setup, you're not going to get 100micron precision. For $1k, they'll tell you you're getting 100micron precision, and you'll be lucky if you do. For $10k, you'll get 10micron.

But to what end?
