I work in a lab where I am developing membrane based CO2 separation processes.
The feed to the membrane is 90%CH4-10%CO2 gas mixture pressurized at 10 atm. The membrane selectively permeates CO2 and some CH4. The permeate side is at atm. pressure and its composition is analyzed using GC by manual injections. However, when I inject permeate sample in the GC I am getting nitrogen peak as well in addition to CO2 and CH4 peaks. I am not sure what could the possible source for this nitrogen as it is not giving the correct permeate side compositions.
I have tried purging permeate and feed side with helium gas and feed gas repectively before introducing it to membrane before starting each experiments but that did not change the result.
The flow at permeate side is measured using bubble flow meter.
Any ideas why I am getting nitrogen peak in my system and how to get rid of that.
