Hello,

We have bought some new equipment (pressure vessel) for our plant. The equipment have cleared the hydrotest after construction. These equipment were constructed in a different country and were transported to a new location for installation and use.

The equipment will be installed 8 to 9 months after receiving. Is there any requirement of conducting the hydrotest/pressure test of these equipment at site before taking them in service? Or does the pressure test conducted at construction site suffice the Code Test Requirements?

I have tried searching BPVC Codes regarding pressure test requirement after transportation of equipment but did not find anything. Can anyone share the code which specifies these requirements?

Many Thanks,

JZ59,
The ASME BPV Code addresses the requirements for constructing (material, design, fabrication, examination, testing, certification, stamping) a vessel which is done at the certificate holders location. As an example, ASME Section VIII addresses the activities that are performed that allow the certificate holder to stamp the vessel including the hydrostatic pressure test. Once the vessel is stamped and the data report completed, all of the Code requirements for that vessel have been met and no additional activities are required to comply with ASME Section VIII. There will likely be system requirements that apply to the vessel once it is on-site such as B31.3 Section 345 which requires a system pressure test.

What are the specific vessel code requirements and the associated system code requirements?

The installation country may have laws and regulations that are additional requirements to ASME.

I have seen whole projects cancelled because the developer purchased equipment that did not comply with local regulations.

The test of new vessel in the shop is part of the fabricator responsibility per ASME Code and as specified/steamped on the certificate. As the equipment received and installed on site, it's the Owner's responsibility to perform the field testing for the equipment as well as the whole system prior to start-up to ensure the whole system is installed properly without damage, and safe for operation.
