The February 9, 2004 ENR magazine has an article on page 17, "Industry Sounds Warnings Over Corrosive Effect on Steel". The article discusses the replacement methods for CCA pressure treatment of wood and the corrosive effects they have on metal connectors.

The January issue of Fine Homebuilding also had in interesting article on the next generation of treated wood. In this article, the author was recommending that the hangers be either stainless steel or HDG G185 (that relates to Simpson Strong-Tie ZMax.

Have a link for the article?

I just went to a seminar from Simpson. They tried to sell us on the ZMax coating system. But they recommend yearly reinspection of the ZMax connectors with the new PT products. When you read the fine print, they only material Simpson warranties is stainless steel.

I think iill consider switching to the borate treated wood products for non-ground contact, protected applications.
