Is there any limitation for a minimum height of skirt?
I understand that the skirt height should be sufficient to allow for visual inspection.
The piping department wants to know if there is any min. height of skirt that is allowed?

I have read various articles but only found material on sizing of vents, openings and thickness of skirts.

It has been my experience that the minimum height of a skirt is set by the clearances of the central drain on the lower head.

There are no specific rules about skirt/pipping layout and design. Some companies require all valves (especially automated valves)to be located outside of the skirt.

Be aware that there are practical rules for skirt vents and skirt manway openings that must be considered.

Assuming most common pipe sizes and typical vessel diameters, you would want a minimum clearance distance of 2'-6" to 3'-6" from the bottom of the center nozzle to the foundation.

Sometimes adjacent equipment or maintenance access ways will affect the skirt/piping layout also

I have seen vessels with very short skirts, But these are mounted on hollow structures and the piping runs inside the structure.
