Hello everyone.

This is a new area for me and I have a basic question about the pressure vessel code. I am developing a project in pressure vessels according to Section VIII, however I have not found any information about Yokes or frames, which standard has to follow?

Thank you for your kind cooperation.

What sort of pressures are you dealing with?

Yokes or frames are most typically for Division 3 vessels - and the rules for those are covered in Section VIII, Division 3.

Thanks for the response,

I have checked the Section VIII, Division 3 and I have only found about wire-wound Yokes. However, I have not found rules for other types of Yokes.

Then there would not be any rules per se. To quote U-2(g) in VIII-1
ASME Section VIII said:
This Division of Section VIII does not contain rules to cover all details of design and construction. Where complete details are not given, it is intended that the Manufacturer, subject to the acceptance of the Inspector, shall provide details of design and construction which will be as safe as those provided by the rules of this Division.

Thank you for your response TGS4,

I have found a brief quote KD-6 in VIII-3, however, I would like to know what rules of the division could be referred or applied to this quote.

Asme Section VIII said:
“Yokes or frames shall comply with all requirements of this Division.”

You're going to need to get someone familiar with Division 3 construction to assist you. We've reached the limit of my ability to assist. If you need some references, please let me know and I will pass along contact info.

Thank you TGS4,

I would be very grateful if you could provide me some references.
