Previous and Next Views 8

Catia V5 has the capability to get on the screen the view before and after it moved.
Does NX have this tools, too?

No, it doesn't have anything to do with either "Undo" or "Redo". It works when we rotate the view.
Actually, there is no design modification, but only view moving. Catia remember the previous view and, if required, retrieves it. If we change our mind, next view will get us where we were before.
it is very helpful, I use this enhancement a lot in Catia!

I don't know of any such functionality in NX.
There is one handy shortcut though. If you press F8 the model will rotate to its nearest fixed orientation (Top, Bottom, front etc...)

I remember a similar "restore view" command on AutoCAD; whenever you zoomed or panned, it would remember your previous view and let you get back to it quickly. Working on NX with a spaceball, I'd nearly forgotten about "restore view". I haven't missed it.

I agree, at my current job, migrating users from Solidworks to NX, I've been asked about a previous view command, and I'm not sure I ever knew it was there. User was delighted to hear about it yesterday, but with a spaceball, I still don't know when, or how often it will actually be used. I guess if you pause long enough, that is when the "last view" is noted?

The nice part of Catia's "PREVIOUS and NEXT VIEW" is that Catia store and remember all these views, no matter how many they were!
Wouldn't be good if the Siemens architects would bring this endorsement into NX?

So what triggers Catia to save a view? Would one be saved every time I pause for longer than a certain interval, when rotating via my spaceball?

My personal opinion, is that I'd rather use memory for something more useful, since I can rotate back with the spaceball. Only on a few rare occasions, do I need to go back to a particular view, and then I'll define and save it with a descriptive name, for future users of the file. I personally just don't see when I would use it.

In my opinion, no. The use of a spaceball (highly recommended for any CAD system) almost entirely negates the need for "previous view". If there is a view that you use often, NX already has the ability to save the view and restore it at will. I'd rather the developers fixed existing bugs than spend time on an arcane feature that the majority of NX users don't need/won't use.

However, you are welcome to contact GTAC and open an enhancement request (ER) to voice your opinion to the developers.

One remark I often hear during Beta testing events. With each new version Siemens develops nice new functionalities but leaves older ones for only 75% finished.
Would be nice if they would put some more effort in finishing or further develop old Functions.
Good examples are Male Threads, Deformable parts etc..

'Male Threads' are 100% finished, per the original spec. It's just that they are out-of-date with respect to the newer 'Thread Hole' function. But I agree, they need to updated so that they are complaint with the approaches used for more modern features, like 'Thread Hole'.
