when i try to plot with the SDI print master, i can't pick "print to file" cos it's greyed out, but i can't sus it out from the help, it only seems to show me how to add printers etc, i don't need to set it up to a printer, cos i'll only be printing pdf's from the .cgm files

Can anyone help ?

Use pdf995. It installs as a printer. Then print your NX image to the PDF995 printer.

when you say "use pdf995" where do you mean, this is not an option from the list of printers. And you can't type in your own entry ?

File->Utilities->Printer administration

add the requested printer.

good luck

Ben was referring to pdf creation software available here: You will need to install the pdf995 software before you try to add it as a printer/plotter.

Oh great, thanks guy's.
One more question, where do i set the directory to which the saved file will be written ?

Just choose it the first time you use pdf995, subsequent uses will go to that folder.

I haven't managed to download "pdf995" because of the rediculous internet restrictions this company has.
But we have one called " cute PDF "
i've installed it but i can only get it to work by using "file print " but not with " file plot "

Any ideas ??

Yeah, that's how it works....you PRINT to the PDF maker, not plot to it. If you want to plot to a PDF maker, you have to have it set up in the Print Admin to Render file then Execute program.

Since it appears that you're still a bit shaky about how to get the proper setup for Print to File to work, you should probably call GTAC for some phone support, if you're paying for it monthly. There are also some PDF guides on the GTAC support site that pretty much covers how to deal with the Print Admin.

at my old job we'd pick "file - plot " then " print to file" and it'd write a .cgm.hpg file into a pre-set plotting directory, then we'd convert that file to a pdf, this way the sheet size would be correct as well as the line thicknesses, this is how i'd like to do it.
