Pro/Desktop to Pro/E transition 1

Hi Folks,

I'm in the process of getting a new 3D drawing software and I've stumbled on Pro/Desktop - the little brother of Pro/E (as I was tolded). Has anyone used Pro/Desktop before and have moved on to the big bro Pro/E? How was the transition like? And was Pro/Desktop any good to use as a CAD tool?

You will find the transition from proDesktop to ProE like going from SolidEdge to catia. There is NO REAL link between them. In ProDesktop, you make solids using a standard array of shapes (square, spheres...), will in ProE you create sketches that become the actual 3D geometry. The geometry contruction in ProE is far more advanced and complex than in ProDesktop.

I actaully use ProE and then tried the ProDesktop demo. I was having a very difficult time trying to adjust to a new way of creating geometry.

So the short answer is, there is no real progression from one to the other. ProDesktop was a software actually bought from another CAD developer, whereas ProE was developed by PTC.
