Pro/E 2001 DWG exports crash Autocad 2000/2002

I've been exporting DWG files from Pro/E version 19 thru 2000i for the last couple years with no problems. A couple months ago, we switched to Pro/E 2001 and now I have intermittent problems opening DWG files. Smaller drawings seem to open most of the time, but mid size and larger drawings from 1MB to 10MB in size are very inconsistant. Most of the time, the drawings will hang or cause an error dialog to pop up closing Autocad. I have tried to open the files in Autocad 2000, 2002 LT, and VoloView. I've tried saving out version 13 and 14 DWGs as well as version 12 DXFs out of Pro/E with the same results. I'm currently using the Autocad Drawing Recovery Utility and it will open some drawings. It generally reports that it removed multiple invalid objects on the corrupt files, but I'm not sure what its removing. The drawings appear intact after the recovery with no missing geometry.

I don't know the extent of what Pro/E added to the DWG and DXF export function other than the addition of layers.

Anyone have a solution to this problem? It's becomming a real pain! DWG files should open with the newest Autocad...or why have a DWG export translator? ;)

We have been having the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with Pro/Engineer's exporting of poly lines? This is also occurring with Wildfire 2.0 for us.

I'm using Pro/E 2001 DateCode 2002480. I export assembly drawings to both DWG & DXF with no problem. My largest file is 42 MB.
