I need to export a part into SW2008 and be able to retain the features. Using an .iges format, I get the part, but it comes in as a "dummy" part and I can not edit any features just add more.

Any format ideas?

Can't be done I'm afraid. Your only options are to use a dumb format like iges or step, or alternatively re-model the part in SW.

SW claims to be able to open a Pro/E part. I tried it with an older version than 2008 & it did not work well at all. It may be better now. Probably depends on how complex the part is. I'm sure SW will not be able to handle things that are unique to Pro/E like family tables.

If SW can open a pro/e part you can bet your bottom dollar that it will come in as a dumb solid or surfaces rather than a feature history supported model. In most cases these types of translators are simply automating the process of translation via an intermediate format such as step anyway. The software just hides that process so that it seems like it has opened the geometry form the other file directly.

SW can open a Pro/E file and try to convert it using an add in called feature works. Result will vary of course but I have had some luck with it before.

I've had ti work (opening a ProE file in SW). What I noticed is issues with features that SW itself doesn't create, obviously, or how SW creates compared to ProE. Case in point, using multiple sets for fillets in ProE will not come across. I'd imagine some patterns and such wouldn't come across either. I think the groups I had of features in ProE dropped out, but the features remained there.

If your model isn't TOO complicated it can do a decent job, depending on what you need it for. I just needed to import to test out some design ideas, which I re-created in ProE. Was an issue between work laptop and home machine. I didn't have access to the work laptop that night.

If need to do "real work" on the imported model, you'll have to be real careful to check all features, of course.

Good luck.
