I dont think there is a 2001i release. It is either 2000i or 2001.
The only way to convert between the educational and commercial versions is using a special floating option called "EDU_COM_CONVERT". As far as I know, this licese is only available to colleges and universities with site licenses. Even then, you need to have access to the license server at the school to ensure that this license is available to your workstation.
Another problem with this is that you will rarely find any schools running 2001 any more. Most that I know of use Wildfire 1 or 2. As a result, the files that are converted will not be backwards compatible with 2001.
My understanding of this is that PTC allows for some of these floating options at schools so that students working on design projects can have a professor perform the conversion for them if they choose to work with manufacturers using Pro/E. I have worked with the University of Toronto's Formula SAE Racing team to convert some files for them (through George Brown College, where I taught at the time) so that they could send the files to local suppliers. To do so, however, I needed someone to access the license server for me to ensure that I was able to use this floating license.
