Hello everybody,

I have a some model files in the VRML (*.wrl) and Inventory (*.iv) format and i want to import these models as parts into ABAQUS for performing stress analysis.

But abaqus doesnt allow me to import these files as parts. It appears that ABAQUS does not support the file formats.

I tried converting the model files to ABAQUS supported IGES format ( *.igs ) using a software called "Rapid Forms 2004". But when i tried to import these model files as parts into ABAQUS, it denies me to do so by popping up an error - "The file cannot be read; it is either corrupt or not a vaid IGES file".

Can anyone tell me How to import these models into ABAQUS ??

I am using ABAQUS Version 6.4-1.

Thanks in advance

Try opening the iges file in Notepad and you might find there's no data or only a single line. If not then check the file by opening the iges file in a different kind of CAD package to see if it is corrupt in a different way. You can get Rhinoceros for free to view the files if you don't have your own package. If it is corrupt then try saving it in a different format, like stp.

Hello,

Thanks for the quick reply corus.

Can any one tell me which tool i can use to convert my VRML and Inventor file models into a format that abaqus recognizes. I want a free software tool that does that.

In any case please tell me even about any commercial software options available for achieving this file conversion job.

I downloaded the evaluation version of NuGraf but it places holes in the surface.

Thanks in advance.
