Hi everyone, I'm creating an algorithm to calculate displacement on plates and I'm following the calculations steps of the example 13.1 of the book "Enegy and Finite Element Methods in Structural Analysis" on page 585. My algorithm (made on MathCAD) does not converge to the exact solution as I increase the number of elements and nodes. Does anyone knows what I might be doing wrong?

it sounds like you're doing FEA via Mathcad ? I guess you can, since it's only solving matrices. You could also use Excel. So long as your stiffness matrix is correct and you're using double (or Quad) precision. This may be the failing for these canned s/ware ... around off errors ?

having this problem, you could try something simpler (a rod) and see if this works better. If it doesn't work then there's something fundamental in Mathcad to change (increasing the precision, bits, of the numbers)

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?
