I bought a new computer. I installed MathCad 11 on the new computer and had to do a manual activation. The program now runs but when I try to open a data file, the program does not look for a .mcd file. Instead, the program looks for a "FeatureSaveAsFilters" file. I have none and can't find out what it is. I called MathSoft. They didn't know either.

I can open .mcd data files using Windows Explorer. But I can't then save them as .mcd files. The program wants to save them as "FeatureSaveAsFilters." Has anyone encountered this problem?

Probably, but the only probable solution is to completely uninstall the program, clean the registry and reinstall.

I thought I may have to remove and re-install but I wanted to hear back from MathSoft first. They asked me to send them a few screen prints of my problem and my computer specs. Here's the e-mail I got back from Tech Support.

Dear Mr. _____ ,
As mentioned, we currently support Mathcad 12 and 13. Again, as a quick courtesy, I did a quick search for that phrase in our database and online and found nothing. So if our previous recommendations don’t work, then you’ll want to check with your Help Desk or a local computer technician.

Regards.

I haven't encountered this problem, but another avenue to get help is the Mcad user forums. There's a link there from the help menu in Mcad. There are some users there that probably know more about Mcad than Mathsoft does! and many of the users there use Mcad11 since the Mcad12 debacle.

Well, I finally heard back from MathSoft. Their suggestion was to uninstall, reinstall, and manually reactivate if required. I uninstalled, turned off Norton, reinstalled, and was able to activate automatically on 2 new PC's. Everything seems to be working OK now.

Thanks, MathSoft. You did try to help even though you only support the last 2 versions (12 & 13).
