NX 7.5.2.5

I just started using NX7.5 and I am having an issue moving componets. I have an assembly with multiple sub assemblies. I am trying to move a small sub-assembly within a larger sub-assembly however every time a try to move the smaller sub-assembly it wants to move a larger sub-assembly. I have to contraints so that not the issue. I right click on the small sub-assembly and select move, and when I do, the larger sub-assembly is active. I can't seem to isolate the smaller sub-assembly for movement.

Try starting the Move Components dialog first, tick 'Move Selected Components Only' under the Settings bar and THEN select your small subassembly. Should work in theory, as long as you've constrained what you intended to constrain.

Good luck!

I can get it to work by going into larger sub-assembly, but in NX 5 I could move a componet that was several levels down while viewing the main assembly.

I see what you mean now. By selecting the small SA in the Assembly Navigator first and then moving the component it automatically activates the larger SA, so you can miss out that step, but you will still need to make the top-level the Work Part again, if you need to.

Other than that, I can't immediately see a way to replicate what you describe happened in NX5.

Hope that's of some help, even if it only shows that it's not user-error.

Do you want the sub-sub assembly's position to be unique to the top level assembly? If so, try override position.

In NX5, if I selected a componet in a sub-assembly that was part of a larger assemby, the sub-assembly would become automaticly become the work part and the selected componet would move within that sub-assembly. Now however, it appears that I need to make the sub-assembly the work part prior to selecting the componet I want to move.

I've just tried it again, and as long as you click your small subassembly first it will give you the Move Component behaviour you're looking for without changing the work part first.

Cheers,

J

Try selecting the Component first, either from the screen or the Assembly Navigator, and then select either the 'Move Component' icon on the Assemblies toolbar or by pressing MB3 and selecting the 'Move' option.

John, I just tried what you said (which is how I did it in NX5) and it work fine. However, I had several instances of where I pick the component, selected move, moved it and the whole sub-assembly moved. I had to make the sub-assembly the work part, select the componet then move it. It has not been consistant.

Well, if there are constraints in the sub-assembly they will be honored when you move any component where there are constraints between it and another component in that sub-assembly, which could be all of them if it had been fully-constained itself.
