Windows probably needs to be reinstalled

Press F8 on bootup - this will pop up a startup menu. You can then select dos mode. Check if it starts up in DOS mode.

If it does, restart and try again in safe mode. Check if it boots up in safe mode. If it doesn't then it probably needs reinstalling.

If it does boot up in safe mode then there is something strange about the startup.

thanks for your suggestions xwb but the problem is it keeps restarting even b/4 i press F8 it happens so fast that i cannot lunch the setup talk more of reinstalling windows.
i personally suspect its a hardware problem, either the processor, motherboard or powerpack.
what do think?

Download MemTest86+, install to a floppy, and run it.

I had a similar boot problem last year, which was fixed by re-installing Windows.

Hi fredddy

Is it possible your cooling fan on processor heat sink has quit working? Or is there a lot of dust on mother board may need a good cleaning You could be over heating during boot, but win 98 always was a little fussy.
