problem with feature driven patterns.

I have an assembly that has a sub assembly inserted then that sub assembly is patterned using a "feature driven pattern”, the feature is an existing pattern from a different top level part in the assembly.
The issue I am having is that the original seed assembly for this pattern has "exclude from bill of materials" selected. The patterned parts do not keep this selection and show up on the Bill of Materials. I then have to go into the feature tree of the assembly and edit the properties of each patterned part and select "Exclude from Bill of Materials".
So... have I missed a step or just an issue with the way SolidWorks handles this?

I don't know if the exclusion is supposed to propagate to patterned parts or not.

However, the Exclude from bill of materials option can be applied en masse to the parts within the pattern. (Shift select first and last).

Thanks for the idea CBL, I knew about the shift select option. Its the "getting it right the first time" without the work around that I really need. Our documention is automatically created from a VB program that reads the BOM data from all drawings. If the "fix" is overlooked we have stuff in purchase req's that shouldnt be there.

I did, this is another avenue of looking for answers.
Some times info comes a little quicker here.
