Problem with threads

Hi,

I wonder, if you have any idea, how the following problem could be solved...Lets assume, that we have a part, we will pre-machine this part and then we would like to do the final machining with another part for example. The problem is, that once you wave link the bodies, all the threads from the pre-machining will disappear and wont be shown on the drawings.I would like to know, how this is solved in various companies.

The hole for the thread is still there the thread itself just needs to be reapplied. That is what we do most of the time. It really isn't a big deal.

It seldom critically effects the drawings, because the threading operation would in those cases be added on the pre-machined part which has its own drawing detailing all the thread sizes. The separate drawing we would prepare for the post machined part details anything but the thread sizes, that being unnecessary since they're already on the earlier drawing.

The problem is, that if you add there another part, and you will create a section through the threaded hole, it will look strange.
 
Not if you re-apply the thread to the linked body. I just meant to suggest that you may not always need to if such a section is not required. As a rule many people would prefer to always have the threads there, and if they add one they'll add all the threads.

Hi guys

As a slight tangent to this 'thread' did you know that if you use modelled threads as opposed to simplified representations it causes NX huge problems if your using Teamcentre as JT creation doesn't handle threads very well?

Definitely worth pointing out as a pitfall well avoided.
Huge problems may be overstating it a little, but certainly a degree on unnecessary complexity beyond what the tessellation process ordinarily has to deal with is inadvisable as it slows down the system. We have plenty of examples of external fully threaded fasteners in the system that it seems to cope with even though I'd still rather avoid using it. I guess because they're small models they managed to squeeze by.

to be honest, I think, that these things are topics for the creators of the NX. I think, that it is basically a pain in the ass to create threads 3-4 times (everytime, when you link the body)...I heard that in version 6 (?) there should be possible to create threaded hole instead of hole and thread? I hope, that this would then work better and the linked bodies could inherit it?
The same topic would be the colors of the objects in UG. If you compare it to proe, where it works exactly the way you want, while in here, if you create more than one level of linked bodies, you loose all your face properties.
