I'm trying to create a detail view in a drawing using a box instead of the default circle outline. The instructions say to create the box before selecting the detail view option. When I do this, SolidWorks ignores the box and still attempts to draw a circle. Is there a way around this or am I missing something?

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

Verify that "display new detail circles as circles" is unchecked under Tools/Options/System Options/Drawings.

I thought that might have been the problem too, but the box is unchecked

I'm using SW2004 SP2.1 & it allows me to show the actual detail as per the rectangle selected, but the detail source (rectangle) is converted to a circle (with appropriate detail letter).
If you look at the Detail manager (left side of screen) under Style, two options exist ... Circle & Profile. The circle option is automatically selected & cannot be deselected and the profile option is greyed out. I am assuming that later versions/SPs of SW have either activated or eliminated this option.

[cheers] & all the best.

OK, I've got it figured out. My mistake was trying to select the detail function by right clicking the mouse. When I did that, I was de-selecting the rectangle that I'd drawn. If I draw a rectangle and acces the detail function thru Insert/Drawing View/Detail, it works fine.

CorBlimeyLimey: If you select anything in the Style box other than the Per Standard or Broken Circle options, the Profile selection turns on and the circle outline disappears.
