Procedure Qual. & "Pressure Equipment Directive" 1

We reciently received a job to fabricate some pressure vessels in accordance with ASME and the "Pressure Equipment Directive". We are a code vessel shop and hold procedures and performance qualifications to ASME Sec. IX, however I am told we will have to requalify our procedures and welders under the Pressure Equipment Directive and have this process witnessed by a Notifiying Body. I have no problem with this but, are their any other requirements different than or additional to ASME IX I should be aware of.
Any help will be appreciated.

Well,you will have your hands full. Its not simple nor cut and dried. Tall to your AIA and see if they have PED services.

ASME issued a "Guide for ASME stamp holders-Use of ASME Section VIII div1 to meet the EC Pressure Equipment Directive (97/23/EC)".
113 pages of differencies. It takes a LOT of work on quality assurance system. In my opinion requirements of ASME BPVC and PED are sometimes conflicting. Not always will you be able to put CE and U marks on the same vessel.

Yes, you will need PED weld procedures and with all of the paperwork and witnessing by AI's involved, it is a very expensive investment. (I've written many in the last year or so) We are a PED shop (ASME U Stamp, ISO 9001: 2000, Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC: Module H) and can make completed PED (CE marked assemblies). If you don't have your quality system "certified" I'm pretty sure you will only be able to make pressure vessel components, not completed assemblies. Getting the PED cert is a VERY expensive and time-consuming process. You can contact me if you want more info.

requalification of WPS's and WPQ's are not all that different, primarily consisting of more extensive NDE and impact testing, you're going to have to address your NDE program requirements as well
