I'm using TP316 welded pipe to construct the cylindrical portion of a vessel. Quick question:
Assuming all notes have been met for the material, am I limited to the stress values for the product form of wld. pipe? Or can I use the stress values under the product form of Smls & wld. pipe?

anolan23, if the notes are met, or if pipe actually IS seamless, seamless allowables may be used. But, caution, Note W14, if welded w/o filler, you revert to welded stresses (0.85 factor), if welded with filler, pipe must be full x-rayed (E = 1.0).

But can my welded pipe use stress values under product form that is Smls & wld. pipe?
 
What is the material specification of the TP316 stainless steel? Once you know this, go to Section II, Part D and find the stress line for the welded pipe product form AND review all notes in the stress line.
 
anolan23, was your pipe welded with or without filler metal?

If without, you may use seamless stresses multiplied by 0.85.

If with, and full x-rayed per UW-12, you may use seamless stresses multiplied by 1.0.

I have:
Welded Pipe

From Section II some of the product forms available are:
Wld Pipe
Smls Pipe
Smls & Wld Pipe

I obviously can use the line where the product form is wld pipe. Can I use the line for Smls & Wld Pipe?
 
Not unless the ASME material specification permits use in the scope. For example, you have an ASME material specification for seamless and welded pipe versus a material specification for only welded pipe. Once agin, what is your material specification, if you even have one?
 
anolan23, are you able to determine whether your pipe was welded WITH or WITHOUT filler metal?

And YES, what specification is it?
