I need some help regarding the table K323.3.1(impact testing requirements) of ASME B31.3 (2012):

According to that table it is required to perform PRODUCTION TEST (impact test) for each WPS / type of electrode / each range: 1/2T to T+6mm(1/4").

If impact test are performed as part of WPS qualification, still necessary to perform production tests on fabrication welds?

Best regards.

Deccocwb,
Where does it state "Production" tests ?
Each WPS requires impact tests.
Each type of electrode (if changed from original PQR) requires impact tests.
Each thickness (if outside the range noted above from original PQR - 1/2T to T+6mm(1/4")) requires impact tests.
These can all be achieved via WPS/PQR qualification.
Cheers,
DD

Hi Dekdee, thanks for your reply, just another question:

In table K323.3.1 there are two parts: "Tests on Materials" and "Tests on Welds in Fabrication or Assembly", this second part is only applicable to WPS qualification? Have nothing to do with Production Tests?

PS.:
My original doubt came from note (2) of table 323.2.2: "Impact tests that meet the requirements of Table 323.3.1, which are performed as part of the weld procedure qualification, will satisfy all requirements of para. 323.2.2, and need not be repeated for production welds.".

I understood "production welds" as "production tests". In table K323.3.1 there´s no note(2) mentioning production welds.

Thanks
