We are considering switching our 5-axis laser programming to UG CAM when we make our move to UG NX. Currently using Ideas for design with laser programming on a home made post in Camax. Can anyone comment on the functionality and or user friendliness of UGs CAM package? Keeping in mind we are looking for our laser personnel to run this - not an engineer or CAD operator. Thanks for the help!

I Use UG CAM regularly on P&W jet engine parts. I have sculpted airfoils and now work on low compressor rotating parts. Your Laser would be more like the parts I program now, 5 axis positioning then 2 axis cutting. I am a die hard sequential mill (graphical apt, drive surface, part surface, check surface) fan because of the control it gives me with heavy milling but for a laser variable axis contouring or one of the more automated modules would probably work fine also. I find UG much easier for complex or simple work than APT. but if physical memory is an issue (a lot of our machines don't have a lot of RAM) I write machine subroutines with UG then write apt loops to distribute the cut (rather than instancing)
