Have you tried pressing F1 and reading "about project geometry"?

It's used to "project geometry" (like a line or circle/hole,etc..) from other features/parts onto your current sketch plane.

I use it most often to either "reuse" existing part geometry in a sketch so that I don't have to redefine the dimensional and constraint relationships that I have already fully defined in other sketches, or to "link" sketch geometry to other previously defined features to create a direct relationship between an existing part feature.

It is used to define references for a sketch to be constrained to. or make a sketch dependent on any previous geometry.
