PS Sheet size versus Plot size

Something happened. This was no big deal yesterday.....today, who knows?
I was setting up a new drawing template for a D size drawing. Created a border, titleblock, etc. When setting up the second sheet i tried to change the "sheet" size in PS to D-size. Depending on which printer you choose you get different D-size sheets. D-size is 22 x 34, so why would the sheet be 23 x 35, or in another case much, much larger ( ?? x 897 ). What does the sheet size have to do with the plotter. We don't have a plotter that will do D-size, never did. The sheet in paperspace should be D (22 x 34) and i can print it on any size i want, letter, 11 x17, whatever. So why is the "sheet" size linked to the plotter and how can i get my sheet back to 22 x 34 and make it stick.

First, there area differnt standards for "D size". There is Ansi D which is 22x34 and there is Arch D which is 24x36. (I don't know of one that is 23x35.

Additionally, every printer has it's own "non-printable area" at the margins, so this can affect the printable area of each size. One can edit the printable area in the plotter configuration.

The only way I can think of to get 23x35 (other than a custom sheet size) is if it Arch D with 0.5 margins.

The bottom line is you should look at plotter configurations (command: plottermanager)

i would just like to have a sheet in paperspace that is 22 x 34. It was before. It used to fit perfectly. Now i can't find that sheet aspect. I should be able to plot whatever area "fit to sheet" on any paper, any plotter.
My border template is 22 x 34 and i would like to place it on the "sheet" in paperspace so that it is not off center and not hanging out is space. ie. i would like to use the corner of the sheet as my insertion point AND the border fits correctly.
I don't know why changing the plotter has anything to do with the representation of a piece of paper in paperspace. I (me) will determine how much of the area to print (extents, display, window) and at what scale, not the plotter.
I AM NOT trying to set up how to print. I AM trying to provide a background sheet in a layout that is the correct size. And again, i don't see why they are related.

"I can't find that sheet aspect" - Where are you looking? If you put a 22 x 34 polygon in paper space, zoom extents/ Now you can plot extents to any size printer you want. If you want to see it in paper space, then do a plot preview using a plotter that does support 22 x 34 (like DWG to PDF) that came with AutoCAD, then click "apply to layout" (save the drawing) and I think you will see what you want. Paper space is tied to a plotter - that's just the way it is.
