What does PS mean in relation to Horsepower

It's German...Pferdestärke, which translates to "horse strength". The equivalent measurement is 1 PS = 735.49875 W.

Since 1 hp = 745.69987158227022 W, we have 1 hp = 1.01387 PS (give or take a few sig figs).
