Pseudo-static vs. pseudo-dynamic. Which one is the correct usage?

To me “pseudo” means not actually, but having the appearance of, i.e., pretending, mimicking. So a pseudo-static model would actually be a dynamic model that mimics a static system. Shouldn’t the appropriate term be a “pseudo-dynamic” model? A static model that mimics a dynamic system (like an earth quake).

“When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less.” (from Alice in Wonderland)

While it seems semantically bass ackward, the term pseudostatic is well established in use and we are pretty much stuck with it. At least it's better than "elastic silt."

Yes, I've read elsewhere about pretty sensible explanations of how the term 'pseudostatic' is incorrect and 'pseudodynamic' would just be the proper definition.

Alas, like dgillette says we're stuck with the error and the purists of logic must put up with it and suffer in silence.
