Dear Expert,
We have a PSV in dry cl2 service; the vessel is using to suction chiller waste receivers. The contents of service are ccl4, H2SO4, Na2So4, some cl2, some moisture, etc.
The PSV is pitted badly and consequences of leak.
The material of PSV IS, Nozzle and Disc. 316SS—Guide 430ss—Spring Material cs. Size inlet 3inch and out let 4inch
Question is. Could you suggest the batter material and cost-effective to resolve the issues?

Hi, You have effectively described the very basic materials of a carbon steel body safety relief valve. What i do not know is how long has the valve been in service and whether this is first time report or ongoing situation. Would need to know more about the fluid corrosive fluid components. However, most manufacturers will ask you the user for the material specification as they are not metallurgists. What is the material of the protected equipment ? How often does the SRV open, if at all. You could start at looking at just the wetted parts when the valve is closed (nozzle and disc only if a full nozzle design), probably with a resilient soft seat. Where is the pitting ?

Per ISO, only the term Safety Valve is used regardless of application or design.

Someone didn't do the job right. Corrosion must have been known about. What are the protected equipment materials ? Do you have a spec sheet for the valve ?
