Hi,
I am working on PSV Requirement on tube side of heat exchanger.
Process Description:
Infect we are pumping Jet from Stripper to storage tank. Before going to storage Tank Jet pass through heat exchanger (on which PSV to be installed), Air cooler and control Valve.
Scenario Description:
During Turndown there is Emergency Shutdown due to which the Shellside and tubeside flow is stagnate. we have fire at that time.
Problem Statement:
The Vapor generated in tube side due to Fire are 8587 lb/hr (191 gpm). The volume of vapor generated by fire can displace equal volume of liquid.
1)If I consider the vapor can displace the equal volume of liquid than Control Valve at the down stream of the exchanger will Choked because during fire scenario it is at its minimum opening position so we required a PSV,
2)If I consider the vapor can displace equal amount of mass flow than control will not choked so we PSV is not required.
Please help me which off these above option is correct
