Pullout torque or full load torque for static strength of gear tooth 1

THE pullout torque of a motor connected to a gear box may be as high as 2.75 times full load torque.Now for static strength calculations of gear tooth, keys on shafts and shafts,which torque should be used.Gear box is occaisonally used so that fatigue life is not the consideration.

Obtain a code and have a read. I am not that familiar, though if I recall correctly there is a statement about being able to withstand break down torque of the prime mover.

Well... then I laugh at that 2.75 factor.

OK, if the motor seizes dead, is replacing a key a big deal?

However, in my opinion a key should not be used to transmit torque in the first place.
