Pump Casing Overpressure Allowance?

Are there any design codes or regulations that allow the maximum pump casing pressure to be within 110% of the casing design pressure? ASME Code Section VIII addresses 10% overpressure allowance for a pressure vessel, but it is only applicable to a vessel with a overpressure protection device like a relief valve. I am not sure if it is allowed (by codes or regulations) not to do anything to a pump case as long as the maximum case pressure is within 110% of the design pressure.

Is the pump built to any specific code? If so, that should specify design conditions such as this. If not, it would be the manufacturer's standards that controlled.

Can you contact the pump manufacturer for input? It might be that design pressure could be increased slightly at a lower temperature, or might be governed by seal design or something of the sort. Or might be governed by bending in a ductile case, in which case, it wouldn't be near the issue as it would otherwise.

If it's high pressure or hazardous or hot product, I would be very unwilling to guess as to the adequacy of the pump.

I understand that API 610 allows at least 105% of casing design pressure. Please comment.

Are you talking about centrifugal pump?
