What happens to the head that a pump experiences when there are two or more outlets at different elevations?
My situation is this...I have several high volume pumps (Pumps A) pumping water through steel pipe (20" and 30"). I know all the lengths of pipe and even some rough estimates of flowrates at the discharges. One bank of pumps pumps water into a 30" line and then about 200ft above the pumps a small (10") line is bled off the main header, which flows into a creek. I do know approximate flows from these outlets. The 30" header continues until in joins another 30" pipe. That 30" pipe has water flowing into it from another bank of pumps (pumps B), so essentially they join. Then it continues up the pipe with a combined flow where it is discharged. I am familiar with calculating flows through pipes and using pump curves, but I have never run into the situation where there are different types of pumps pumping through the same line and also the discharges are at different elevations.
Say that Pumps A have to pump to a final elevation of 500 ft, but they also have a bleed flow at around 200 feet, is there a way I can calculated what pump head to use to find the flowrate of the pumps?
