What type of pump would you recommend for dilute (3 to 10%) sulfuric acid service? I have a project to replace the current leaking pumps and want to come up to modern standars. The pumps deliver 220 gpm of acid at 120 ft of head to various users in the plant. The acid is produced from the boiler feedwater ion exchange bed regeneration. Thank you.

Magnetic-drive centrifugal pump with a CN-7M (alloy 20) wet end, as long as the acid is clean & free from solids.

You would do well to consider non-metallic pumps for this duty. This can eliminate the potential corrosion problems, and some non-metallic pumps can be quite tolerant of abrasive materials if that is a potential problem in your system.

I agree with ccfowler. Check out the Vanton Pump website. They manufacture a wide range of thermoplastic pumps that will handle your requirements.

pmureiko, what's the maximum temperature of the pumped fluid ?

pmureiko,

When investigating a new or replacement installation, the more information available - the better the potential solution. In addition to 25362's question regarding temp, can you also provide details about the existing pump. Pump type, material of construction, seal info (type and mat'l).
What have been the problems with the existing pump? Leaks from where? Any other pertinent information that you can post.
