on what bases shall I size the manifold connecting 5 pumps in parrallel
what velocity should I use, and should the velocity based on total flow (all 5 pumps) or on half flow?

I have to add that manifold will be connected to 2 discharge pipes

You wouldn't have to size the manifold for full flow from 5 pumps unless all pumps were on one end and all offtakes were on the other. Look at how your configuration splits the flow up as it goes from pumps to your offtake points. Ask yourself, where are the offtakes located? and does each offtake take the same flow or is there some difference? Look at only one offtake in service and the number of pumps you'd need running for that, then the other. Look at all operating configurations and the flow split from the pumps. Answering those questions will tell you what maximum flowrate you need to design for. Take velocities between 5 to 10 ft/sec, possibly more, and find some reasonable diameter where head loss isn't extreme. It usually won't be much, because the lengths between joints are typically very short, but it gives you a reality check. Other than that, you probably won't need more than the pump discharge diameter x 1.5 in almost any reasonable case.

I guess we are assuming plain water at normal T&P's?

Are the pumps identical?

If so, the manifold system should be coñpletely symmetrical so that the pumps operate identically.
