Seems as all the pump selection problems are now a thing of the past. All of us old guys can put away our pump books and slide rules and take up fishing or bird watching, then maybe there is still an opportunity for us to sort out some of the weird and wonderful questions posted in this and other forums that can't be solved by wiz-bang technology.

PumpFlo, like all computer aids, really only helps if you know what you are doing in the first place. If you don't know, it will simply help you make a bigger mess. But it sure does make it easier than the old way.

Artisi, you will still be needed for all the questions that will come up when the people will put the pumps into operation they have selected through this software.

A pump remains an engineered product. A selection software cannot and does not consider all aspects of a correct pump sizing.

Pumpflow does not have informnation on all the products. I use pumpflo to do the preliminary selection only. Once a pump is found then I work with the vendors to fine tune the selection.

As with other such software, I presume that "Pump-flo" has the usual, seemingly endless, nearly incomprehensible, lawyer generated disclaimers assuring the user that no matter what happens with the selected pump, "Pump-flo" will bear no responsibility for anything no matter what claims they make make in advertising or promotions, errors in their instructions, or anything else, no matter what!

Very comforting, isn't it?

Valuable advice from a professor many years ago: First, design for graceful failure. Everything we build will eventually fail, so we must strive to avoid injuries or secondary damage when that failure occurs. Only then can practicality and economics be properly considered.

There are several manufacturers who do not supply curves to pump-flo.

And I would have to strongly agree with CC and Tenpenny, without proper knowledge, pump flo could be less friend and more foe.

Artisi,

One would hope the engineer has learnt all there is to know at and more . Then they can go on to use the software as a guide.

Software is ony as good as the guy who prepared it.

Don't worry, max design limit flowrates are never at BEP, always reached someday, somewhere, or somehow and will screw up the pump ops when they eventually wind up running those all the time. Someone will add an overdriven VFD and a permanent screwup will result that will require somebody like U to come along and sort out the mess.
