I need to determine the appropriate size of a sewer pump to replace the existing pump which has been determined to be oversized. Is there a step by step guide to follow in determining the correct size pump for the needs of the system?

I am new to pump sizing and so would greatly appreciate any asssistance.

The information you provide are very, very basic. And the better forum might be the Pump Engineering Forum. I recommend to post it there again but with a little bit more background information.

Thanks for pointing out the pump forum. Will post there.

What you need to do is to determine the pump operating conditions; flow and discharge head.

Then you contact a pump supplier and ask for a pump recommendation based on the operating requirements.

You should select a pump that operates near the best efficiency point on the pump curve.
