I've had a great deal of difficulty finding "basic" material on pumps and compressors that was useful. The basic stuff feels like a "See Dick. See Dick run. Dick runs fast. The end" level. Then the next level is "to adjust the crosshead clearance on an Ariel JGK you ..." level. I've had a great deal of difficulty finding anything in the middle, so I tried to write it.

Some of the reviewers of my upcoming book Practical Onshore Gas Field Engineering that is scheduled to be available later this month think that I found a useful intermediate level, but I'm too close to it to be objective. It may be too expensive for what you need.

Perhaps the Pump Handbook 4th Edition by Igor Karassik, Joseph Messina, Paul Cooper, & Charles Heald and the Compressor Handbook by Anthony Giampaolo might also help?
