Pumps with DC motors

Which applications uses dc motors besides solar proyects. (I'm talking about pump applications)

I installed two 1500 kW DC motor driven single acting triplex diaphragm pumps to transport ash slurry Cw=75% 11km to a dam.

DC motors are used extesively where speed control is desired.

In power generation DC pumps are ALWAYS used as EMERGENCY Lube Oil (and Seal Oil in case of H2 Cooled Generators) pumps.
These pumps start upon loss of AC power to protect the bearings of the units.
The DC pumps are fed from a battery bank.

DC motors, coupled with positive displacement pumps, (such as gear pumps)provide a method for accurately controlling flow volume.

This pumping method can be very useful in the process chemical industry where accurate volumes must be delivered in a batch process.

This DC motor application is typically found where there is:

- DC power available to a group of pumps
- Motor size of about 3 hp and smaller
