Punch/Laser Machine, Parts to close to the edge?

Hey All, I started a new job ~6 months ago where they have a Trumatic 1000 (punch/laser). Unfortunately there wasn't any real handoff between the previous crew and the new crew so we've been learning on the fly and there are some basics that I'm not knowledgeable about. We're using 'TruTops' and are able to program parts, just not sure if what we're doing is a bad idea.

-Sheet Margin - This is my biggest question right now. When nesting parts I've started to turn off 'Sheet Margin' so I can place parts near the bottom of the sheet, see attached picture. After running a few jobs I'm wondering if this is okay, bad, or terrible. It seems to be fine for sheet rigidity (we typically process from top down) and the sheet clamps aren't dinging the material where the parts are. My concern is the punching tools getting laser spatter on them because now the laser machining operations are a few inches closer to them.

-A related question is should the laser brushes be touching the top of the sheet? Right now they're ~1/4" above the sheet so the laser spatter has more opportunity to escape. The brushes on the laser guards do touch the sheet, the ones around the laser head don't. I imagine they're adjustable but I'm not sure how that adjustment is made. We sand all our parts so getting scratches from the laser brushes being lower isn't a concern.
