Pushing the limits of DG-16

Is it too much of a stretch to use DG-16 to design a Flush Moment End-Plate Connection that uses "square" beams? For example W8x31, W10x49, or W12x79. I'm working on equipment, not buildings. Table 3-6, note (a) covers the depth. But the tested width covers only a very narrow range of 5-6 in.

That sort of beam should be fine. It's really for the seismic moment connections (IMF and SMF) where you have to rigidly stick to the sizes that have been tested.

The theory has been validated well in the testing. Therefore, provided you don't need much ductility out of the connection, it should be fine to extend the theory out to slightly different sizes.
 
I agree with JoshPlum.

It seems possible that some combinations of bolt gage, p distances, etc. might make the situation different from envisioned in DG16. Sketch the yield line patterns to make sure they make sense.
