I hope this is not off topic but who better to ask about which program works except the people that use it. I am looking for ERP software that will include tracking pressure vessels in our shop. I will need to include tracking heat numbers, welders numbers, NDE reports,and all of the other paperwork related to pressure vessels as well as the usuall quoting, estimating, inventory, engineering and related to a fab shop. Does anyone have a specific prgram that they have used. I have already researched the usual programs (Job Boss,E2, Global Shop etc) and none of them cover pressure vessels.

A few years back when I was working at a fab shop we used Made 2 Manage. I did not have a part in selecting the software but it did have some of the functions that you are needing. Can't speak for any other packages.

All of the activities indicated can be easily put into a database for which you can customize for your particular use. Proprietary software requires payment to the vendors to make a simple customization.

Openoffice can be downloaded for free, and tutorials are on the online and you could be up in running in a week.

Here is a software package that will keep track of all aspects of the welding process. I don't know how much extra it has in the way of tracking materials, etc.
